Bilateral Relations
Nepal and Serbia (former Yugoslavia) established the diplomatic relations on 7 October 1959. The relations between the two countries have always remained close and cordial ever since the establishment of the diplomatic relations. The Embassy of Nepal in Berlin, Germany is accredited to look after Serbia. Similarly, the Embassy of Serbia in New Delhi, India is accredited to look after Nepal.
Nepal and Serbia hold common views on a number of international issues. Both are founding members of the Non-Alignment movement. Nepal and Serbia are both landlocked countries. They support and cooperate with each other in international forums including in the UN.
Exchange of Visits
- Foreign Minister Hon. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali paid an official visit of Serbia on 27-28 November 2019 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
- Chairman of the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament Rt. Hon. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina participated in the 141st session of Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade from October 13-17 2019.
- First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia H.E. Ivica Dacic visited Nepal on 4-6 May 2018.

The Government of Serbia extended humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of floods in 2017 in Nepal. Serbia has been providing few scholarships for Nepali students for higher studies under “World in Serbia” program. Nepal and Serbia have concluded Trade Agreement in1965, Agreement on Agricultural and Technical Cooperation in 1965, and Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology in 1975.
As bilateral trade, investment and tourism at the moment remains at a minimum level at present, more ways and means could be explored for enhancing partnerships and exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries. In FY 2019/20, Nepal imported goods around $50,000 from the Serbia, while the value of export was nil.
There is no investment from Serbia to Nepal at the moment. However, Nepal’s Chaudhary Group opened a noodle factory in Ruma, Serbia in 2017, which employs 1,200 people.
